In All Things

I heard an amazing Sunday school lesson and Sunday service this past Sunday. The church that we are currently attending has taught me and caused me to think about WHY and WHAT I believe in.
We have been attending a new church for the past few months. Well, it is new to me and our children. Kevin went to this church when his family lived in Rockford a long. time. ago. (Around 20 years ago.) So I guess you could say it is "new" to him too. He does know and remember a lot of people. The pastor that was there when he was younger has recently resigned and a new pastor has since taken over the pulpit.
We have bounced between 2 different Sunday School classes. The first one was taught by the pastor of children's ministries. Our first month in the class discussed the topic of purity/sex and how to speak to your children about this topic. It blew. me. away. I was not prepared on how much information (very good information) we would be provided with. We found many of the parents in the class to be older than us, and that was OK. It opened our eyes as to what we would be faced with in the years to come. The pastor also spoke on a purity weekend. He recently did this with both of his boys. And he and his wife could not say enough good things on what this had/has done for their family.
I was really encouraged during this class. It brought up some questions that Kevin and I had. We also realized through some of it that we needed to get better at being on the same page as each other. Yes, I know that dating is WAY down the road when it comes to our children, but it will be here SOONer than we know it. We need to be prepared and be equipped to help our children remain pure.
The second class we have attended is referred to as the Lighthouse class. Those in this class are more our age and we know the teacher. Not personally, but Kevin has recently done work for them. This class was great this past Sunday! There were a couple of married couples in this class that were quoting scripture and referring to scripture faster than I could think of a reference!
We studied Romans 8:28 this past Sunday. I am sure many of you can quote it by heart.
Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
I read this verse through a few times when class started. It brought me back to the Friday before...I had met a friend of mine for coffee. We were just catching up on each other. We both agreed while sitting at the table that where we are in life right now is difficult, but we wouldn't change it. She mentioned that her family is bursting out of the seams of their vehicle, but yet she was EXCITED to see how the Lord was going to provide them a new vehicle. To me, she is an example of this verse....IN ALL THINGS GOD WORKS FOR THE GOOD OF THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.
She could have sat there and complained about the bad things in her life right now....BUT she didn't. Not once.
Read that verse one more time...AND WE KNOW IN ALL THINGS GOD WORKS FOR THE GOOD OF THOSE WHO LOVE HIM. That is an awesome promise to me.
ALL THINGS...financially.
ALL THINGS...sickness.
ALL THINGS...work.
ALL THINGS God will work for the good!
What a great way to start off my week this week. It was a blessing to me to be able to leave church yesterday and be reminded of that promise.

I enjoyed this post, Heather. I needed this reminder as we are bursting out of our tiny apartment and are waiting for God to provide my husband with a ministry job so we can move. Thank you for focusing on the truth! I needed this.

Thank you for sharing your heart! What a beautiful post. While we miss you at church, I know that you are seeking God's will in your new church. Isn't it exciting to see where He leads!!!

I am jealous of your Sunday school topics! How I need those topics in my life. So much of the teenage years SCARES. ME. TO. DEATH. I need to be taught by someone who has been there and can help guide me through the hard conversations and trials to come.

All things work together for GOOD. You are right. My cup runneth over today reading your post. Christs' lessons that he teaches us do make what we go through so much "more fun." It's exciting to see what new aspect of Himself he will show us next.

Love you and miss you.
