Summer break starts next week for us!! The kids are so excited and have been counting down the days for weeks. The past couple years summer break has not made much sense to them, but now that they are both in school this year they are looking forward the next three months of NO SCHOOL!!!!
Remember when you were in school?? Do you remember thinking about riding your bike, playing at the park, sleeping in, swimming and of course vacation!! I know I remember those lazy summer days of being a kid. :) Well in the past, summer didn't change much for us. I work outside of the home so Victoria and Logan would have to continue to get up early and go to the babysitter or daycare. Towards the end of the summer last year, Victoria asked me why she couldn't sleep in or just stay at home for summer break. It was then I started thinking about what could be done differently for this summer.
They are still way to young to be at home all day long with no supervision. So that was out of the question. What about a teenager? We live about 40 minutes from our church so having a teen from our church come to our house would probably not work. Through the winter I just kept praying that we would find someone local and young. :) Someone that would love being with my kids all day long and that wouldn't mind coming to our house so the kids could enjoy being at home!
Well back in March I started asking around. I sent a friend of ours an e-mail. She works at the school district here in our town...and has lots of connections. :) About a week later she e-mailed me back. She had someone in mind who was great with kids and who lived down the block from me!!! Praise the Lord!!! Actually, we know her already. She went to the same church that we went to when we first moved to Illinois!!
So we connected and let me tell you...my kids love her!!! She has been over a few times already and is so helpful! She even came over last week at night, after the kids were in bed, so I could go to the gym. (Kevin was in Texas.)
God is so good. I feel like I hardly had to do anything (but pray of course) to find her. I am excited for Victoria and Logan to have a lazy summer this year. :) They will get to sleep in, play at the pool, go to the Library, go to the park for picnics and whatever else that they concoct up or get Mary to do!!!
Six years ago when Kevin and I decided that I would work outside of the home I knew that it wouldn't always be easy, but I am so thankful over the past few years to have friends that have watched our kids during summer break (Julie and Tancy!) and a really good daycare when they were little.
So here's to a wonderful summer break for all the kids that are getting out of school this week!!!
ENJOY!!!!!
